Dr. Sam Wright introduced Chloe Coney as a woman who "has given new meaning to the term community building."
"She has worked with the 'haves' in this community, so they can support initiatives to make things better for the 'have nots' of Tampa Bay," Wright said.
"When the name Chloe Coney is mentioned, most people think of the words 'visionary' ...'pioneer' ...'builder'," Dr. Wright said.
She has championed the cause of Black businesses and entrepreneurs, helping to establish businesses in the inner city. She has worked with builders to erect affordable housing. She has helped families to earn higher credit scores so they can own their own homes."
Speaking to her supporters, Mrs. Coney said, "I am a woman who wears many hats."
"I have worn hard hats on the construction sites of buildings in East Tampa I helped to renovate and return to neighborhood use," she said.
"I have worn drug hats when we marched shoulder to shoulder in the streets as neighbors ridding our streets of drugs and crime."
"I have worn my elegant, Sunday-going-to-church hats."
"But the hat I have on today is the hat of a candidate for the Hillsborough County Commission," Mrs. Coney said.
"I am a Proven Leader of Change," she said. She then paused, and the audience chanted with her, "You can Hang Your Hat on Chloe Coney."
